United Action for Animals is pleased to announce the DVD release of

ANIMAL PEOPLE - the Humane Movement in America

A film by Gary Kaskel, Music by Robert Douglas
84-minute award-winning documetary includes UNITED POULTRY CONCERNS

Animal People is the first comprehensive film history and overview of the animal protection movement in America. While the modern animal protection movement has its roots in the Victorian era, concern for the welfare of animals goes back centuries. Animal advocacy spans a wide philosophical spectrum, and this 84-minute documentary examines major players in the animal protection movement past and present. Among those interviewed are DR. KAREN DAVIS, PRESIDENT & FOUNDER OF UNITED POULTRY CONCERNS. Filmed at UPC’s headquarters in Machipongo, Virginia, Animal People has wonderful footage of our sanctuary where our interview about chickens and UPC’s dedication to making their voices heard takes place.

Other people interviewed in the film include Dr. Tom Regan (The Case for Animal Rights), Peter Singer (Animal Liberation), Ingrid Newkirk (PETA), Wayne Pacelle (HSUS), Miyun Park & Paul Shapiro (formerly Compassion Over Killing), NYC Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Dr. Neal Barnard (PCRM), Dr. Elliot Katz (In Defense of Animals), Nanci Alexander (Animal Rights Foundation of Florida), Tippi Hedren (Roar Foundation & star of Alfred Hitchcock’s film The Birds) – and more!

Special tributes are paid to animal protection pioneers Henry Bergh, who launched the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in 1866 in New York, Cleveland Amory, who founded The Fund for Animals in New York, and Henry Spira, who founded Animal Rights International in New York and launched the first major attack on the U.S. chicken industry in the 1980s. o

Note: Animal People does not show scenes of animal cruelty.
