Dear Friends of UPC and the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos,
United Poultry Concerns and the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos (www.EndChickensAsKaporos.com)
have planned a magnificent evening for you at the Peter Max Studio in New York City to benefit our campaign to replace chickens in Kaporos rituals with
money or other non-animal symbols of atonement. On September 12 UPC and the Alliance held a hugely successful rally in Brooklyn, and on Thursday
September 30, Mary and Peter Max will graciously host a Benefit at the Peter Max Studio to enable us to expand our campaign in 2011. While we are
deeply grateful for each and every kind donation we receive to advance our campaign,
this message is a Special Plea to those of you who are in or near New York City – or anywhere – to PLEASE REGISTER TO ATTEND THE PETER
MAX BENEFIT TO END CHICKENS AS KAPOROS on Thursday evening, September 30 from 6:30-9pm. Please click on
to register to attend for just $50 per person.
In addition to delicious vegan food, including kosher vegan food, free literature, music, and the gorgeous art of world famous artist Peter Max,
you will have the opportunity to meet Karen Davis, PhD, President of United Poultry Concerns & Founder of the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos. Karen will give a presentation about the formation of the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos and show a delightful video –
“Chickens At Play” – about the rescued chickens at United Poultry Concerns’ sanctuary in Virginia.
Rina Deych, Brooklyn resident, animal activist and a Founding Member of the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos, will present a short video of her courageous filming of the Kaporos ritual in Brooklyn, after years of doing one-person demonstrations at these
places for the past 20 years. Rina will talk about her orthodox grandfather, a kosher butcher in Boro Park in the 1920s who opposed the use of
chickens in Kaporos rituals, and she will give some background on the mentality of the Chassidic community especially in relation to animals.
Carol Moon, dedicated NYC animal activist and musician, and singer Joy Askew, will sing their own, creative versions of Donna, Donna and Mazel adapted to the chickens and their plight.
you will have the honor of meeting Mary and
in their beautiful studio filled with the great art of Peter Max. We are profoundly grateful to Mary and Peter Max for graciously hosting this
First-Ever Benefit to End Chickens as Kaporos. Now, all we need is YOU. Please go to www.upc-online.org/kaparos/max/ to reserve your place at our historic Benefit to End Chickens as Kaporos.
The chickens need you there and so do we. Thank You.
The Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos (AECK) is a project of United Poultry Concerns. AECK is an association of compassionate groups and
individuals who seek to replace the cruel practice of swinging and slaughtering chickens in Kaporos rituals with charity, in the true spirit of
religious observance. www.EndChickensAsKaporos.com
