FRESH FIELDS TARGETED FOR SELLING DEAD DUCKS
They can't swim, they can't fly, they're
so crippled they can barely walk
- Where: Fresh Fields Tenley Circle 4630 40th St, NW
Washington, DC, just off Wisconsin Avenue
- When: Sunday, February 11th, six to eight p.m.
- Metro: Tenley Town Red Line
United Poultry Concerns and VIVA, two national animal rights groups,
will hold a protest demonstration on Sunday, February 11 from 6 - 8
p.m. as part of a nationwide campaign to persuade Whole Foods, which
includes Fresh Fields, to drop duck meat. Whole Foods-Fresh Fields
has created a false image that they care about the treatment of
animals killed for food. In fact, they are selling factory farmed
birds who are tortured for food.
The duck industry is pure cruelty, says UPC spokesman Franklin Wade, who will head Sundays protest. Duck producers cut off part of the ducks bills. They confine the ducks in filthy sheds, and deprive them of water to swim in. Ducks mate for life. They need to be outdoors in the sun on a pond. Fresh Fields cannot be humane and sell slaughtered ducks. Well have signs and free information about how to get Fresh Fields to stop selling these birds.
Ducks Out of Water is a project of VIVA! (www.vivausa.org) a national
duck defense group supported by United Poultry Concerns which
promotes the compassionate & respectful treatment of domestic fowl. www.upc-online.org
