Petition to Stop Forced Molting of Laying Hens

Death on a Plate

United Poultry Concerns (UPC) and the Association of Veterinarians for Animal Rights (AVAR) have joined together in a campaign against the practice known as forced molting. Forced molting--the starvation of laying hens for 5 to 14 days straight--is used by the egg industry to control egg supplies and prices (See PoultryPress, Summer 1997). If a person starved their dog or cat they could be prosecuted, but because the victims are farm animals, they are legally unprotected against the cruellest human practices.

Inside you will see our Petition to Stop Forced Molting of Laying Hens. Please sign it and get as many other signatures as you can. Feel free to make copies of the petition for circulation and return completed petitions to UPC as soon as possible. UPC and AVAR will jointly submit all petitions to the two major industry trade groups, United Egg Producers and U.S. Poultry & Egg Association. Public pressure is critical. Please make this a top project! Thank you!
