UPC Needs Your Support This Holiday Season
Holiday Greetings from United Poultry Concerns
“Friends at United Poultry Concerns, I am confident that I speak for every activist in FAUN group when I share with you our sincere, warm, heart-felt GRATITUDE, for faithfully promoting our ‘Abolish Live Markets!’ demos at this disgusting pit of animal misery in West New York, NJ. Karen was a long-time friend of mine, and – from the very beginning – one of the strongest and most fervent supporters of FAUN group in our efforts to take the battle to these disgusting ‘live poultry’ markets in NYC and New Jersey. It was Karen herself who, in 2010, when she had learned of our campaign, reached out to me personally and so generously offered me the two battery cages which are, to this day, highly visible and poignant props in our displays in front of this filthy slaughterhouse. We, everyone in FAUN group are truly humbled and grateful for your friendship and support.” –Anthony Botti, www.faunnj.org
“I just wanted to tell you how much I love seeing Hope’s picture on the top left corner of the front of the Poultry Press. Karen helped me when I adopted Hope after she was left at a school playground — she was a ‘broiler’ chick and barely able to walk at first. With Karen’s advice and the advice of someone from another sanctuary, we learned how to feed her and care for her, and she lived a (still too short but) happy and active life. We built her some adaptive stairs that she could climb to get into her coop, and she seemed so happy the first times she was able to go up and down on her own. She helped us weed violets and ate blueberries off of the bush. She had chicken and human friends, enjoyed the snow, and laid eggs. She had a joyful quilt made in her honor, depicting her flying over Cleveland. Hope was one of the coolest and dearest chickens we’ve cared for, and she dispelled the myths I’d come to believe about birds like her. Karen told me she kept Hope’s picture by her computer, and that meant so much to me. I think fondly of Hope and Karen every time I see the photo, and miss them both.” – Carol Bartram
United Poultry Concerns educates people not only about the suffering and abuse of chickens, but about the sweetness, vibrancy, pride, and joy of chickens and our love for them. We’re grateful to be able to bring comfort and joy to the many chickens who come to our sanctuary often rescued from a life of fear and abuse. We recently adopted 12 hens and a rooster named Bubba. It is such a joy to see this group of beautiful birds strolling around our predator-proof outdoor aviary and mingling with our peahen and other chickens in the yard!
This is our 34th year since Karen Davis founded UPC in October of 1990. But as we say each year and every day, there is much work still to do.
Here are a few highlights from 2024:
We ran our beautiful “What Wings Are For!” ads on a truck and 14 bike share locations in Washington, DC to celebrate International Respect for Chickens Day/Month.
We urged our members to contact Marriott and encourage them to discontinue feather & down products.
This year, our dedicated NYC Kaporos rescue team was able to rescue, triage, rehab, foster, and transport over 450 chickens.
With your caring and generous support, we will continue the important work of relentlessly advocating for chickens, turkeys, ducks and other domestic fowl in 2025 and beyond.
Our Work for the Birds Depends on Your Support!
