Thinking Like a Chicken
News & Views!

Karen with Rainbow the rooster

“I want to influence people to perceive chickens and turkeys in their own right, apart from the categorical traps in which they are typically held captive.” — Karen Davis

Karen Davis, PhD, President of United Poultry Concerns, is launching an informative podcast series of 10-minute episodes featuring life from a chicken’s point of view. If you were just “poultry” to most people, what would you want them to learn, say, think, and do about you?

“Thinking Like a Chicken” features short, articulate talks about these birds and our advocacy on their behalf. Topics range from inside the poultry industry to life in a sanctuary, a cockfighting ring, a school hatching project, a backyard. Ideas and situations that highlight these birds will be discussed. Karen will describe her personal experiences with chickens, turkeys and other domesticated birds for more than three decades along with the challenges and ethics of plant-based and “clean-meat” advocacy.

“While I would not presume to speak for ‘voiceless’ birds — their voices speak for themselves! — I do seek to be their Voice in the public domain to help them be heard. Please join me for these biweekly podcast episodes.” — Karen Davis, United Poultry Concerns

International Respect for Chickens Day

Today I want to tell you about a very special day in May – a day meant for all chickens! May 4th is International Respect for Chickens Day – a day to celebrate chickens, wherever we may be, by doing an inspiring Action of Compassion for these wonderful birds. In this podcast I suggest some things you can do and that others have done through the years to promote kindness and appreciative care for chickens.
