Karla and Karen

Karla
was rescued from a battery cage operation
that was depopulating its buildings of so-called "spent" hens. Karla,
is from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She escaped from a truck
and was taken to the Lancaster County Humane League last May. We sent a
volunteer to get her and two "broiler" chickens. We learned about these
three birds as a result of our investigation of a high school cruelty
situation involving chickens, in Lancaster, Pa, last Spring. Karla had
almost no feathers when she arrived here, but, as you can see, she now
has beautiful plumage and she is very active. Karla is also an extremely
affectionate hen who loves to be petted and held.
