Topics: United Poultry Concerns’ Campaigns to End Chicken Kaporos and Require Fire Protection Systems in Farm Animal Housing Facilities

This week we talk with Dr. Karen Davis, founder and president of United Poultry Concerns, about two of UPC’s major campaigns to help chickens and turkeys and other domestic fowl. They include the group’s effort to replace the use of chickens in cruel kaporos rituals with nonanimal symbols of atonement, and the effort to persuade the National Fire Protection Association to require owners of farmed animals to equip farm animal housing facilities with sprinklers and smoke-control systems – something agribusiness producers do not want to do.
