TAKOMA PARK, MARYLAND SELECTS MEMORIAL STATUE OF ROSCOE, THE ROOSTER,
“who made us smile and brightened our days”
In our last (Summer) issue of PoultryPress, we told you about the beautiful memorial service the city of Takoma Park held for their beloved 10-year resident-at-large, Roscoe the rooster, following his death last February. UPC president Karen Davis is a proud member of the all-volunteer Roscoe Memorial Committee which chose the statue that will be cast in bronze and erected in downtown Takoma Park at a dedication ceremony to be held in Spring 2000.
The Roscoe Committee unanimously selected Takoma Park artist Normon Greene's clay model entry as the winner of the Roscoe design competition in July. His statue has captured Roscoe's spirit – forever.
Folks, if you ever loved a rooster, now is the time to send a wee or weighty donation to a town that shares your love. All donations will go towards paying the artist, erecting Roscoe's statue, an inscription plaque, mounting materials, and dedication ceremony expenses. Send your donation payable to Roscoe's Memorial Fund, c/o Eric Bond, Editor, Takoma Voice, PO Box 11262 Takoma Park, MD 20913 (301-891-6744; E-mail voice@takoma.com).
