A Home for Henny Included in The Hatching Kindness Project

UPC is delighted to contribute copies of A Home for Henny by Karen Davis as a part of The Hatching Kindness Project. A Home for Henny is the perfect story to teach children compassion for chickens and why chick-hatching programs don't belong in our schools.

Shy 38 Inc., a Kansas-based farm sanctuary that welcomed 31 chicks rescued from a local school’s chick-hatching project last May, has now developed an alternative educational pack to prevent such hatchings from happening again. Most of these vulnerable birds were saved from certain death, as is common with such projects. Luckily, the rescued chicks were nurtured by an adult black rooster who acted as their “surrogate mother,” offering them comfort and protection.

Elizabeth Wallace, a volunteer with Shy 38 Inc. and former elementary school teacher, developed the curriculum in collaboration with Animalearn and United Poultry Concerns. Wallace’s expertise ensures the program is both engaging and educational. Visit www.shy38.org/hatching-kindness for more information.
